I’m still buzzing off from Beyonce’s Lemonade Visual Album! Seeing her perform this album live (when she toured here in St. Louis September 2016) is something I will ALWAYS remember.
I have been a proud Beyonce fan my entire life and this Lemonade album is by far my favorite. The album represents the transformation of womanhood; going through life’s sour and bitter experiences and turning them into something beautiful and sweet.
That is what inspired this recipe. (That and you can’t even google Lemonade without Beyonce’s album coming up. So much for getting this recipe indexed by Google huh? lol ) Life has thrown me plenty of “lemons” overtime and I am currently going through my own personal transformation. I just entered my 30s and I have been transforming the heartache and sourness of my 20s’, into the wisdom and success that is healing and energizing in my 30s’.
There are 2 special ingredients I used in this recipe; turmeric and coconut water.
Turmeric is the healing element of this recipe. It is not just a spice used for curry dishes. It is an anti inflammatory resource that is excellent in preventing and treating joint pain. I personally use this spice in my nightly teas and even in capsule format to help treat back, hand, foot issues due to how I was born. You can read more about that story here.

Coconut water is the energizing element of this recipe. It is known as “Nature’s Gatorade.” It is packed with electrolytes. Electrolytes are responsible for regulating our nerve function, muscle function, and our body’s hydration levels. When we exercise, especially high intensity workouts, we sweat and lose electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. Coconut contains both sodium and potassium (way more potassium than bananas) as well as calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous. The coconut water is what makes this recipe curve building friendly because of its carbohydrate (a key macro nutrient in building sexy curves) and electrolyte properties.
Now that you know the key ingredients of the recipe it’s time to put it together. The steps are simple. First take all your ingredients and blend in a high-speed blender. That’s pretty much it. (I use the Vitamix Blender). If you are not using frozen fruit, make sure you use ice to keep it chilled. You can leave it as it is especially if using a high-speed blender. But if you prefer, you can strain the blended juice in a cheese cloth or nut milk bag to remove any extra pulp for a smoother lemon juice.
Life will always toss lemons your way to test your ability in being resourceful. So when life hands you these lemons, make a lemonade that will give you the energy to heal and transform. Oh and listen to Beyonce while you do create it. 😉
Drink as an after pre workout drink or a refreshing drink on a hot summer day!
