Vegan Vegetarian Fried Cabbage

In just 30 minutes, this Vegan Vegetarian Fried Cabbage will give you just the right amount of soul without the cruelty!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of cabbage note 1
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter, divided note 2
  • 8 slices vegan bacon, chopped note 3 (opt)
  • ½ medium white onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • sea salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Rinse and chop your head of cabbage into small pieces.
  • Take 1 tablespoon of vegan butter and add to a hot skillet. Add 8 your favorite vegan bacon and cook until your desired doneness. Remove from the pan leaving leftover oil.
  • Add another tablespoon of vegan butter to your skillet. Add chopped onions and garlic to the skillet and saute until soft.
  • Next add cabbage, liquid smoke, brown sugar, smoked paprika, sea salt, black pepper, and mix everything together. Cook for about 10 minutes or until cabbage is tender.
  • Add vegan bacon back into the pan and mix it together with cabbage. Serve warm.

  1. CABBAGE: You can use pre chopped cabbaged to save time. I never tried this using purple cabbage but you are more than welcome to try it! Even better if you want to experiment, try a mixture of green and purple cabbage.
  2. VEGAN BUTTER: I used vegan butter for a more Southern traditional taste but you can do this with coconut oil or even oil free with broth.
  3. VEGAN BACON: For higher protein content, I recommend keeping the vegan bacon or using a vegan sausage but that is totally optional! Potatoes can work with this as well.
